The Story:


The Melbourne Rebels will travel to South Africa for the first time this season when they take on the Sharks in Durban on Sunday.

After their 19-17 come from behind win against the Brumbies last weekend, the Rebels will be eager to kick off their two week South African tour with a bang, when they take on the Sharks.

The Rebels travel to Durban for just the third time in the clubs history, the last meeting occurred in round 16, 2015 when the Rebels just fell short when they were defeated 25-21 by the Sharks.

The Sharks currently sit third on the South Africa 2 conference table following their 18-13 win against the Jaguares from Argentina.


Team News:

The team will be announced on Thursday, however the Rebels will be without the likes of Jordy Reid, Sean McMahon, Colby Fainga’a, Dominic Day and Lopeti Timani.

A spirited Melbourne Rebels fell within touching distance in Durban when the Sharks defeated the Rebels 25-21.

Scott Higginbotham was the star of the show for the Rebels when he scored two tries, and gave the visitors belief with his second try coming with five minutes from time.

However, despite the second half resurgence from the Rebels, a penalty converted by Lionel Cronje confirmed that the hosts would hold on for the nail-biting 21-25 win.
