Stats Preview: Rd 13 v Waratahs
We’ve taken a look at the numbers that matter ahead of the Melbourne Rebels trip to Sydney to take on the NSW Waratahs at Allianz Stadium on Sunday afternoon from 4.05pm (AEST).
37 – The Melbourne Rebels have used 37 players during the 2017 Vodafone Super Rugby season to equal the club record for most players used during a single season. The return of backrower Sean McMahon for his first appearance of the season saw the Rebels equal the club record set in 2016.
26 – The most amount of points that the Rebels has scored against the Waratahs at the Sydney Football Stadium is 26, back in round 3, 2013 when the Waratahs defeated the Rebels 26-31.
20 – Rebels fullback Reece Hodge hold the club record for most points in a game against the Waratahs with 20 points (two tries, two conversions and two penalties) in Round 5, 2017 at AAMI Park.
15 – The Rebels need 15 points to see the club record 100 points at Allianz Stadium in Sydney since the club’s inception in 2011. The Rebels have averaged 17 points per game at the Sydney venue over five fixtures.
5 – This will be the fifth time that the Melbourne Rebels have played against the NSW Waratahs at Allianz Stadium since the club’s inception in 2011. The previous clashes began in Rd 11, 2011; Rd 9, 2012; Rd 3, 2013; Rd 6, 2014 and Rd 6, 2016.
4 – There will be some familiar faces with four players set to line up against old teammates. Former Rebels Bryce Hegarty and Nick Phipps and former NSW Waratahs Ben Volavola and Lopeti Timani was faceoff against their previous sides.
4 – The Weary Dunlop Shield has changed has four times since the perpetual trophy was introduced when the Rebels were established in 2011. The Waratahs held the trophy until 2013 when the Rebels claimed for the first time in Round 15. The Waratahs held it from 2014 – 2016 before the Rebels won the trophy with their maiden victory in Sydney last season. The Waratahs reclaimed the trophy earlier this season when the two sides met in Round 5.
3 – There has been three players that have made their Rebels debut against the Waratahs at Allianz Stadium. These include Jono Owen (#40), Jordy Reid (#51) and Tim Metcher (#83).
