Sa’aga sets sights on Sydney trial

The inclusion of Fereti Sa’aga in the Super Rugby selection squad to take on the Wallabies this Friday night caps off a breakout season for the Rebels prop.

With just 24 Super Rugby appearances to his name, the young Victorian will be mixing it with the best rugby talent in the country when the two sides meet on Friday night at Leichardt Oval.

The news of his inclusion initially caught Sa’aga by surprise.

“I was actually speaking to my father whilst I was looking through my emails and noticed one from a different sender,” said Sa’aga.

“I opened it up and had to keep re-reading it over because I was in such disbelief.”

Despite starting on the bench, the occasion won’t be lost on the twenty-three-year-old either.

“This is an opportunity I’ve only dreamt of so I’m going in with an open mind and I’m keen to learn from the best. Whether it will be 20 minutes or 2 minutes I’m just going to do what I can to be the best I can be.”

“I’m excited to share the field again with Sam Talakai and Anaru Rangi, their experiences have definitely improved me as a player this year.”

When quizzed on which Rebel he thought would have the selectors sitting up and taking notice, Sa’aga surprisingly opted to nominate a back.

“If I was to choose it would be Semisi Tupou. He’s an awesome talent and when he was called upon this year to do a job for us, he didn’t fail to impress at all and I’m excited see him in action.”

The Wallabies vs. Super Rugby Selection XV will be live streamed on Friday night on the Facebook page at 6:45pm.
