Hulking Australian U20’s tighthead prop Tyrel Lomax has joined the Melbourne Rebels.
The son of former Rugby League international and Canberra Raiders legend John Lomax has signed his first professional contact – a two-year deal with the Melbourne Rebels from 2017.
Lomax initially followed in his dad’s footsteps into Rugby League before a return to Canberra to finish his studies at Rugby nursery St Edmunds College saw him swap codes.
The 193-centimetre and 127-kilogram front rower has been a critical member of the Australian U20’s in 2015 and 2016, which included starting every game of Australia’s recent World Rugby U20’s Championship campaign in Manchester.
Lomax appeared in all eight games for the Melbourne Rising, which included three starts and a try against the Sydney Rays.
